Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about how the backpack transfer works. If you can't find your answer here, get in touch from the contact page.

What is Camino Backpack, and who actually carries my backpack?

Camino Backpack is a booking intermediary: you book and pay with us, and we coordinate the stage-by-stage transfer with Correos, who physically collects and delivers your backpack through their Paq Mochila service.

Which Caminos can I book?

Camino Francés, Camino Portugués Central, Camino Portugués por la Costa, the Spiritual Variant, Camino Primitivo, Camino del Norte, Camino Inglés, Camino Sanabrés, and the Camino to Fisterra and Muxía. Check the dropdown on the first booking step for the always up-to-date list.

What's the maximum weight and size for a backpack?

15 kg and 56 x 40 x 25 cm per backpack. Bags over the limit may be rejected at pickup.

How far in advance can I book, and how late?

At the earliest, for tomorrow (or the day after if you book after 8pm Spain time); at the latest, up to the last day of next month.

Is there service every day of the year?

Every day except 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January, when Correos doesn't run this service.

What's the low season, and how does it affect my booking?

High season runs from 16 March to 31 October. Outside those dates (low season), Correos only keeps the service running on the final stretch of the Camino Francés (from Sarria) and the Camino Portugués (from Tui) — no other Caminos or stretches have service in low season.

Do I need to book accommodation for every stage from the start?

No. When booking you only need the first stage's accommodation; you can add or complete the rest later from the manage portal, always before 8pm (Spain time) the day before each pickup.

Can I change a stage's accommodation after booking?

Yes, from the manage portal (with your booking code and email) until 8pm (Spain time) the day before that pickup. After that, the stage is locked.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes, until 8pm (Spain time) the day before your trip starts, with a full refund to your original payment method. After that, or once transport has started, cancellations aren't accepted.

How do I pay?

By card, securely through Stripe, when you confirm your booking.

What can't I pack in the backpack?

Valuables, original documents, medication you'll need that same day, or fragile, perishable or hazardous items.

How do I know my backpack has arrived at the next stage?

We'll let you know by WhatsApp or email as soon as we have the Correos tracking number for each stage, and you can always check your booking's status from the manage portal.

My accommodation doesn't have 24-hour reception — can I still book?

Yes, as long as it has some reception hours or a way to drop off/collect the backpack. If you're unsure about a specific place, get in touch before booking.

Can I book several backpacks at once, for example for a group?

Yes, up to 50 backpacks in a single booking.

My Camino or my accommodation isn't on the list — what do I do?

Get in touch from the contact page — we keep adding new Caminos and accommodations as Correos confirms availability and new partners come on board.
